I've been using Slackware for years and have Slackware 11 running as a mp3 server on my old 200 MHz, 256 MB RAM Pentium I pc. I don't use a session in X so all is fine. It runs gnump3d-2.9.9 on an 80 GB drive. I have my drive partitioned and would like to put netsecl on one partition.
I read at DistroWatch that netsecl is based on Slackware-how compatible with Slackware tgz packages is it?

Hi,
I have had very little trouble with Slackware tgz packages.
If you are using M.A.C. you will have to turn it off before installing any packages. Even root won't be able to install packages when M.A.C. is running.
If your package contains non-relocatable code, you will have to enter some chpax commands at the command line. There are some examples the these kinds of fixes in the "problems" section of the forum. Installing non-slackware packages be difficult at times. I have had good luck with packages from the following sites:
http://www.linuxpackages.net/
http://translate.google.com/trans...e%3DUTF-8%26sa%3DG%26as_qdr%3Dall
http://www.slackages.com/linux/slackages/
I've never used wireless so I am going to and see if someone else can help before I tackle that issue.
Peace
John |

Hi all,
Well partially John answered your question. I recommend reading the intro from the site. And if you are upgrading it is recommended for security reasons to compile from source although slackware packages will work. If you have problems - use paxctl -m for our new i486_64 bit packages and chpax -m for everything else. |
