Hi Folks,

I tried to download a 2.2g file on netsecl. I got to 2.1G hit resume and kget deleted the file and started over at the beginning. I've had this problem with other distros. I'm not sure if the problem is related to storing large files or if the there is some problem with kget that causes it to do this. It's is a real irritating result when this happens with a telephone connection.

I tried downloading this file partly as a test. I was wondering if netsecl also had this problem

Peace,

John

Hi John,
Some tips on your problem:
Try downloading something smaller interupt it and then resume so we can see if the problem is in kget. Also wget has an resume option that probably kget doesn't use try directly wget. The filesize may be differently interpreted by the server and the kget - check md5sums or gpg signitures for file verification.

John

I've downloaded files as big as 1.8G with several interrupts.

John

Hi Iuri,

It started over from the beginning and wiped out 2.1G.
I've started over from the beginning without Kget. It takes
a while without dsl.

I will probably be moving to new place next month. Once I
get moved, I will probably get Quest dsl. It looks like my
political lobbying efforts will be finshed soon but moving will be
a pain in the ass.

Peace,

John

Hi John,
Yes try direcxtly with wget. This is form the man page:

-c
--continue
Continue getting a partially-downloaded file. This is useful when you want to finish up a download started by a previous instance of Wget, or by another program. For instance:

wget -c ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/ls-lR.Z

Moving is always problematic - I remember when I moved back to Bulgaria :? at least you'll be in the same country.

Hi Iuri,

I also tried resuming this file with "kget" and "copy to" with a couple of versions of Mepis with the same results. "wget -c" will resume downloading the file, but it continues to download after the file is complete. Exactly what was added to the iso is not clear. The md5 checksums do not match.

This seems to be a problemwith kde.

Fortunately, I have until the end of the month to moved.

Peace,

John

Done testing. No Problems with wget as far as I see. I also tested under other OSes - there are some problems with the server, but I managed to download the full ISO. Also I tried resuming without any problems.
